Funny thing. I open up Blogger to put the finishing touches on tomorrow's post... and today's post is gone. Vanished. Poof.
Kaiser Chiefs, wherefore art thou?
I received no complaints from the band or their representatives. I received no complaints from Blogger, nor did I receive any notification from Blogger that they were deleting the post. They just went ahead and did it. Like it never even existed. Abracadabra.
So... maybe this means more posts will go missing in the future. Maybe it means Blogger will be shutting down the site in the days ahead. Who the hell knows. I've reached the point where I don't really care all that much, one way or the other.
Just please understand: If the site should suddenly die sometime in the near future, it wasn't me who pulled the plug.
Same thing happened to me on Sunday or Monday (not sure) over at Star Maker Machine (another blogger blog). I got a notice from Box.net regarding the track ("I Shall Be Released" by The Band), but not from blogger.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a nice musical blog on Multiply. One day, january 2007, they shut down all the MP3 download links, without warning. Not just me : all the people with music on Multiply's blogs ! So, don't worry, one of these days, there will be no music at all on the Internet.
ReplyDeletethe same thing happened to me in mid-september. i did not get a notice from anyone; the post just disappeared!

If this blog does get destroyed - let me say thanks for the great time it's been. You've introduced me to a ton of new music and become my number one interwebs stop in the morning.
ReplyDeletewas that a warning too difficult to click?? anyway..i do like your blog...and told friend to come here as well.. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Devil has had the same experience. A number of posts disappeared without warning. I subsequently received a couple of emails from Blogger Support mentioning breach of copyright. I've decided to work through my past mails (a long and laborious process) to delete any potentially offending tracks and will only be posting MP3s that I have received from the bands or their representatives or are freely available from the band or their labels website. Disappointing but understandable. It was good while it lasted.
ReplyDeletepersonally i preferred when you posted less and wrote about the songs/artists that you chose. now it just seems like a daily parade of randomness, ie volume over quality. don't get me wrong, i love this blog and read it several times a week, but a tighter focus might solve this problem and make the blog more interesting.
ReplyDeletethen again, i guess some people prefer max free music to your insight.
Thanks for the comments, folks. Obviously, I'm not alone in having to deal with this situation. For the time being, we will press on with the blog and hope for the best....
ReplyDeleteAs to Anonymous' comment: You are, maybe, the third person to express that sentiment -- that you wish I was still writing text to accompany the tunes. That's three people over the course of about a month. Some 850-1000 people visit here every day... and 3 people miss the words. I can do the math.
As for quantity over quality... I'm posting as often as I was before -- no more, no less. If you liked the music before, you should still like it now. Quality-control, in that regard, is exactly the same. I don't post songs that I don't like -- at least at some level. I'll be posting on The Dears tomorrow, and, for the life of me, I couldn't bring myself to post a song from their new album. Just couldn't find one that I even found DECENT. In other words, I'm not just throwing MP3s out there because I can; there IS an editing process.
From the beginning, I wanted this blog to be about the music... the songs. I never wanted it to be about ME -- though, sometimes, dribs and drabs of my life have crept in. But people don't care about my life. And shouldn't. It's not interesting. It's not relevant. And it's running on fumes. But as long as I'm here, I expect this blog to be here. I really don't have much else to do....
Finally, after an excruciating year-and-three-months of sobriety, I will be resuming my drinking "career" next Wednesday. That shouldn't affect the blog TOO terribly, though the occasional day may pass without updates. From my perspective, it's a small price to pay....
