EXIT MUSIC (FOR A BLOG)

Well then....

All good things, as they say, must come to an end. Now, I don't know that this blog ever really qualified as a "good" thing, but, from June 4, 2005 to March 5, 2009, it certainly provided me some much-appreciated distraction from the real world.

I've always assumed that I would keep this blog going for as long as I was alive to do it, and so I have. But change is afoot, and the time has finally come to put this thing out of its misery.

I sincerely hope that you have enjoyed visiting here. I hope that you have been able to discover some new and interesting songs and artists within these pages. And I certainly wish you all the very best in your future endeavors -- be they musically-related or otherwise. Aloha.

RADIOHEAD

Just a rather nice live version of the new RADIOHEAD single, as performed by the band yesterday on BBC Radio....

AMPLIVE (RADIOHEAD REMIXED)

Oakland DJ/Producer AMPLIVE ran into a bit of a brick wall when he tried to make his RADIOHEAD remix project (RAINYDAYZ REMIXES) available to the public without first getting clearance from the band. It would seem that everything's all good now, seeing as the songs are available [HERE] for your downloading pleasure.

RADIOHEAD MISC.

You may have heard of a little band called RADIOHEAD. You may have heard that they recently released an album on the Internet. There's a discbox, too -- extra tracks and such. Cost me $85. Arrived yesterday. The first song below is one of the extra tracks and such. It'll cost you nary a nickel. Dig that dark vibe. Dig the synths.

Track #2 is a cover of a BJORK song; live/in-studio; remixed in an unofficial sort of way by RICHARD JANKOVICH aka POCKET.

Tracks #3 and #4 are logical enough addendi. What goes around comes around. Pop will eat itself. Pop is dead. Hop on pop.

MUSE

A lot of people seem to revere MUSE in much the same way that I worship, prostrate myself, and just generally kiss-ass at the altar of RADIOHEAD. And, of course, the two bands are often spoken of in the same bated breath. A shared flair for melodrama... two falsetto-prone crooners... blah blah blah.

Listening through Muse's back-catalogue in recent days, though, I found the songs below to be the only ones even remotely time-capsule-caliber. Rumor has it that they put on one hell of a live show, but unless their tour bus should happen to break down in front of my house -- and unless they should happen to mount an impromptu performance in my driveway -- that doesn't do a hell of a lot for me. So, drawing solely from their studio work....

VAMPIRE WEEKEND

New York foursome VAMPIRE WEEKEND don't seem to have an official full-length record out yet, but there DOES seem to be some sort of "unofficial" CD-R floating around cyberspace.

The word "Afrobeat" gets tossed around a lot in regard to these guys. Also: PAUL SIMON's GRACELAND. And/or: late-period TALKING HEADS. But I don't know... the World Music aspect seems more garnish than entree in the greater scheme of things, so I wouldn't let it scare you off.
